Medium to small tree. Very ornamental fruit that resists rotting for many months. Fruit not enjoyable to eat for most humans but the seeds are delicious roasted. The wood is also highly prized having tri colors and is the preferred wood for bow making. This species can be used as a rootstock for other maclura such as che fruit.
