Sorbus domestica (service tree)

$8.00

Endangered and delicious, this fruit is nearly gone in its habitat and much forgotten. It was once concidered a fine delicacy in the 1800's. The great ethnobotanist Luther burbank did great work to bring light to the value of this tree in the USA over 150 years ago, and amazingly his orchards of rare trees are still growing in California. The fruit is related to apples and pears and tastes similar but is eaten much softer and has a taste likened to a spiced apple pie. This species is subtropical in origin so doesn't require much for chill hours and it's very adaptable as well it can be quite tall.
